Every year Northstar at Tahoe ski resort hold an end of season fun event that you don't want to miss. This year it is called "Spring It On" and the date is Saturday April 10th.

Pull out a fat pair of skis or your wildest snowboard and make the daring attempt to skim across the pond without falling in and freezing to death. There will also be live music on at the Lodge at Big Springs deck and on the village stage. Drink specials will be available to help erase pain & frostbite and for those that don't find this too apealing there is also roller skating as an option.

The ponds skimming will take place from 11.30am until 2pm. Grab your craziest costume and join in the fun. All participants will need to sign a waiver and anyone under 18 will need a guardian signature also, get there early to sign up.

Prizes will be awarded to the top three finalists & don't forget your costume will help here!

The Country's favorite free rib festival is back!! This year's Best in the West Nugget Rib Cook-off, the 21st annual, will run Wednesday, September 2 through Monday September 7, once again transforming the Labor Day holiday on Victorian Square in downtown Sparks to a must-attend culinary, music, craft and family end-of-summer affair.

There is a huge entertainment line up on various stages including Grammy award winning Jonny Lang.

Once again I'll be on one of the beer booths where the proceeds go to the Veteran's Guest House. Come by & visit!!

This is a fabulous FREE event for all the family.

Look For This Band!

Went to see the band Ozomatli last night at The Grand Sierra in Reno.

In their fourteen years together as a band, celebrated Los Angeles culture-mashers Ozomatli have gone from being hometown heroes to being named U.S. State Department Cultural Ambassadors.

Ozomatli has always juggled two key identities. They are the voice of their city and they are citizens of the world.

Their music, a notorious urban Latino and beyond collision of hip hop and salsa, dancehall and cumbia, samba and funk, merengue and comparsa, East LA R &B and New Orleans second line, Jamaican ragga and Indian raga-has long followed a key mantra:it will take you around the world by taking you around L.A.

To quote the vocalist and trumpet player Asdru Sierra "I've always felt that music is the key to every culture, the beginning of an understanding, its a language far more universal than politics".

The crowd was on their feet dancing and singing and having a great time. Check out this band!!

Smooth Jazz Concerts

The Nugget Hotel in Sparks hosts a free jazz concert every Wednesday night starting at 6pm. The sponsor of this is the local radio station 92.1 Smooth Jazz.

We went to the concert on Wednesday this week and there was a truly inspirational saxophonist playing name of Reggie Codrington.

Reggie was born with Ataxic Cerebral Palsy but that did not stop him becoming one of the world's premiere saxophonists. Reggie's Father was also playing percussion with him which made it even more moving.

Look out for his latest CD "Sunny Days"
