Today for about the tenth year we went to the home town  July 4th parade in Truckee.

The name of the town derives from a friendly Paiute Indian guide whom, in 1844 assisted thousands of emigrants migrating West. The Indian's name sounded like "Tro-Kay" to the white men who dubbed him "Truckee".

Today Truckee is a bustling little ski town near Lake Tahoe. Truckee is also just 30 minutes from downtown Reno and well worth your visit at any time of the year.

The July 4th parade is truly a hometown parade featuring old fire trucks, classic cars, dancers, local swim teams, horses, dogs and a cowboy re-enactment group shooting the place up. One highlight today was a local crane company with a swing attached to the crane arm and a banner saying "Swinging 60's". The swing was carrying a Lady whose 60th birthday was today! you could say she was flying high!

It was a gorgeous day and lots of fun was had by all.
